Here's an anonymously nameless dime store labeled record by a Clarence Williams outfit. The same side was issued on Van Dyke 7801 under the moniker, Memphis Jazzers.

Not much information out there at all on this early jazz outfit. They only made nine sides over two sessions with one of those being coupled with a tune from Clarence Williams' first session resulting in issued recordings.

None of the personnel are identified in Rust's discography.

(Both sides suffer from rough starts)

Alabama Jug Band - Decca 7000 & 7001 (1934)

While in New Orleans last week for an anniversary weekend getaway, I thought I should use the opportunity wisely and go record hunting (I have a very accommodating and patient wife).

The first place I stopped had many New Orleans 78s but mainly on later labels...ones I would loved to have added to my collection but couldn't justify the asking prices. (Maybe next visit though)

I did spy these two records, almost blinding me with their original shine completely intact and with virtually mark free playing surfaces. Knowing I would never come across the complete output of the Alabama Jug Band's first of two recording sessions in this condition, I ponied up and brought them home.

Sticking with the New Orleans connection, the title Gulf Coast Blues was composed by Plaquemine native, Clarence Williams while Shimmy was composed by local son, Armand J. Piron.

Butterbeans & Susie With Joe King Oliver & Clarence Williams - Okeh 8163 (1924)

Been after a Butterbeans and Susie with King Oliver for quite a while. (I do believe that this only one of two sides Oliver recorded with the husband and wife duo)

As coincidence might have it, I unknowingly purchased it from someone I had been emailing back and forth with due to this blog and facebook page. Small world of 78 collectors!
