Creole Crooner - Columbia 1732 (1929)

Went to a yardsale today and missed out on a box of 78s by about 2 minutes but later in the day I still ended up with the 'good' ones...they look like they have never had a phonograph needle ride through their grooves. (All of this might be chronicled in an upcoming post)

One of the records I came away with is the following...and I cannot find any information on its mystery artist, the Creole Crooner.

If anyone has any information...please let me know.

Edit: Ok...just found out that the singer is Norman Clark...now does anyone know the guitarist?

Miff Mole & His Little Molers / Louis Armstrong & His Orchesta - Parlophone A3046 (1929-30)

Lavinia Turner & Jas. P. Johnson's Harmony Seven - Actuelle 020627 (1921)

Here we have the first two of six sides that Lavinia Turner recorded with James P. Johnson between September and November of 1921.

None of my books or a quick internet search turned up any known personnel listings.

Recorded in New York on September 2, 1921.

Stephane Grapelly & His Quintet - Decca F-8451 (1943)

Hey Sam...I opened up another box and found one...enjoy!

Eddie Lang - Joe Venuti With Their Orchestra - Decca F-5884 (1931)

Here is the second of two Venuti-Lang 78s I have...the other one was posted here.

What a great lineup...Charlie Teagarden t / Jack Teagarden tb, v / Benny Goodman cl / Joe Venuti vn / Frank Signorelli p / Eddie Lang g / Ward Lay sb / Neil Marshall d.

Recorded in New York on October 22, 1931.

(The wax here has seen better days but the music is still there)

Leroy Carr (& Scrapper Blackwell) - Vocalion 1200 (1928)

It sure must have been tough for blues and jazz musicians to get past 30 years of age.

These sides look to be from Carr's second & third recording sessions on August 13th & 14th, 1928 in Chicago.

Wish I could find more Vocalion 1000's!

Lonnie Johnson - Okeh 8557 (1927)

Recorded on November 9, 1927

(A couple of rough starts in the first few rotations but they settle down quickly)

East German Soviet Swing - Amiga

Here are 2 offerings from an East German record label.

In 1947, German actor, Ernst Busch, got permission from the Soviets to start a record label.

I don't have much more information other than that. Can anyone shed any light?
